Job SummaryThe Community College Initiative Program (CCIP) Scholar Coordinator is responsible for the development and management of academic and socio/cultural immersion activities for a group of 14 to 18 international exchange students. This position is a full-time grant funded position with the possibility of renewal, contingent on availability of grant renewal and continued funding.
This position will oversee and manage the programming and administrative responsibilities for the CCI cohort at BCTC and Lexington communities. The coordinator will assist with academic advising, programming, and events to foster engagement, and referrals to support services to insure successful program completion. The coordinator will be responsible for monthly success reports and student check ins.
Job DutiesProgram Management and Implementation:
Develop and implement a pre-academic orientation program for students.
Liaise and organize a summer English language training.
Develop and implement a weekly U.S. Culture, Society, and Institutions (U.S. CSI) seminar to include lectures, guest speakers, and cultural excursions and activities.
Facilitate community service activities and track student’s service hours.
Facilitate a Professional Excellence Series to assist students with internship search (series to include topics on resumes, cover letters, elevator pitches, and networking).
Organize on- and outside campus cultural events and activities.
Review CCI participants’ Individual Program Plans to track progress towards program expectations.
Meet 1:1 on a regular basis with participants to advise on academic progress, cultural adjustment, and health, and connect with support/resources as needed.
Support students in joining student groups, professional associations, conferences, and/or seminars.
Serve as the emergency contact for CCI participants.
Program Administration
Manage the allocated budget for program expenses.
Provide a weekly report on participant health, discipline, academic progress, and highlights.
Participate in weekly PC calls and collaborate with PCs from other CCI host campuses.
Submit interim and annual Program Reports to the NOVA administrative team as needed.
Liaise with housing provider.
Build relationships with campus administrators and faculty to promote the CCI Program and activities.
Event Planning
Organize regular U.S. CSI excursions to facilitate learning about host communities.
Organize special events such as cultural exchange opportunities for International Education Week in November, MLK Day of Service volunteer activity, and other service and cultural events.
Participate in planning activities and supervising students during mid and/or end-of-year retreats.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. Occasional travel required. Operating a state vehicle is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (Education, Higher Education, Social Work, World Languages, Cultural Studies, or related field) and one year of related experience, or equivalent.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Bilingual in English and French, Arabic, Swahili, Spanish, Portuguese or other world languages with strong verbal and written communication skills.
