Do you know a single person who doesn’t like Maltesers? I know I don’t! They are just so addictive.

I tend not to have them in the house for that very reason, but very occasionally I will buy a box and stash it away to make this amazing no bake Malteser slice.

Just like my mint Aero traybake, it doesn’t last five minutes in my house. It’s just as well it takes less than 10 minutes to make!

I adapted this recipe from the Nigella website. I’ve been making this since my kids were very small, and they’re legally adults now!

I still make this for family Birthdays and parties – it’s always a massive hit and luckily, it takes no time at all to make.

ingredient list

  • Milk chocolate. I love Callebeut chocolate, but if I’m honest, I also use any supermarket brand milk chocolate. You’ll need 400g milk chocolate for the traybake and 200g for the topping. If I’m on a budget, I buy the 30p bars from the supermarket – I’ve never had a problem with them.
  • Butter
  • Golden Syrup. It’s really worth finding the golden syrup if you can – it has a unique flavour. Corn syrup, honey or maple syrup could also be used but the flavour would be different.
  • Digestive Biscuits (Graham crackers in the USA) You could also use rich teas. Any plain sweet biscuit would probably work just as well.
  • Maltesers, obviously! I have it on good authority that Maltesers are known as “Whoppers” in America.

equipment list

You will need either a 20x20cm or 32x22cm baking tin, baking paper to line the tin and a small palette knife to spread the chocolate over the traybake.

You will also need a large heavy bottomed saucepan and a wooden spoon to combine the ingredients.

how to make malteser traybake

  • Crush the biscuits. You can do this by hand or in a food processor. Don’t blitz them to fine crumbs as if you were making a cheesecake base – you need a mixture of both small crumbs and larger pieces of biscuit.
  • Melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup together over a low heat until smooth and melted.

This Malteser traybake is incredibly popular with people of all ages! An easy no bake slice with milk chocolate, crushed biscuits and lots of crunchy Maltesers!

Ingredients

  • 400g Milk Chocolate, broken into small squares
  • 200g Butter
  • 3 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 250g Digestive biscuits or Rich Tea Biscuits, crushed (you're aiming for a mixture of crumbs and larger pieces of biscuits, it makes for a more interesting texture)
  • 200g Maltesers

For the topping:

  • 200g milk chocolate
  • 50g Maltesers

Instructions

  1. Grease and line a 20x20cm or 32x22cm baking tin.
  2. Melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup together in a large heavy bottomed saucepan over a low heat.
  3. Once the mixture has melted and looks smooth, remove from the heat and leave for a minute or two (if the chocolate mixture is too hot, the Maltesers will melt) before tipping in the crushed biscuits and Maltesers, stirring well to combine.
  4. Pour the Malteser studded mixture into the lined tin. Smooth out with a rubber spatula and place in the fridge to firm up for one hour.
  5. Make the topping by melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water. Once the chocolate has melted and is smooth, remove from the heat. Remove the traybake from the fridge and pour over the melted chocolate, smoothing it out using a rubber spatula or spoon. Crush the 50g Maltesers and sprinkle over the chocolate. Return to the fridge once more for 1 hour, or until the chocolate has set hard. Cut into bars and enjoy!
