We'll start with the cool parts of the trip & get to the side of the road fiasco (and contrary to the earlier post, it does not involve any undies...). We'll start with putt-putt at Mutiny Bay.

Susie and I came down on changeover day. We were on our way to lunch (black pelican) and were behind a beige suv with an obx sticker on the left and an obc sticker on the right. I beeped but they didn't hear me. It was in front of dare devils pizza.

Pretty cool huh? I was driving my Volvo XC70 with surf board racks on top. We will have to come up with an obc signal to pull over lol.
Take care, Great pictures!

Went & changed back at the lighthouse facilities & put on my new OBC t-shirt, hoping to find a fellow member (who knew Bobby G was out there?). The only person who commented on my shirt was the proprietor of Gulf Stream Gifts, who asked what the OBX Connection was. He said he's never seen one of the shirts before, I told him to keep his eyes peeled for more & tell 'em I'd been there!

Ate dinner at Carolina Seafood & then swung by the Bodie Island light on the way back to the campground. There were a couple of guys up on the top doing some welding.

Pier Pressure,

Thanks for all the pictures. They are awesome. This one gives me an idea too. Any member who posts a picture of themselves on the Outer Banks wearing an OBC t-shirt gets a free sticker. Email your mailing address to info@obxconnection and I'll send the sticker out this week.

Cheers,
Will

Okay, so Monday, I'm planning on being on the road from the KOA in Rodanthe by 10:00 am, making a couple of stops in Nags Head for one last game of putt-putt & lunch at Pigman's. The zipper breaks on the camper's canopy storage bag & I end up just taking the darn thing off & shoving it up between the seats all the way to the windshield. We don't get going until after 11. So we play, we eat, we say a sad good bye & cross the bridge at 2:00, much later than I hoped, but we just couldn't bear to not get everything done. So we're cruising along through the Tidewater area & I'm on I-664 cutting over to 64. All of a sudden I realize that I have have a flat, don't know whether it's on the Jimmy or on my camper. I'm in a horrible location, a big bend to the left, all wooded, so no one coming around the curve can see me until they're right on me. I pull all the way off to the left (luckily the flat was the left rear so our butts weren't hanging out in traffic). I pull ahead slowly & find a slight clearing where I can pull over even off the emergency lane, because people are really cutting that corner close. I pull back & forth a few times to maneuver the camper so it's not sticking out (if you've backed up a trailer, you know this is not easy, & I'm doing it in sand, with a flat, & a guard rail about 10 feet in front of me). Well, I'm not a woman who's afraid to change a tire, but I've never changed one on this particular vehicle. I get everything out, unhook the camper & find this cheesy little scissor jack with this short little crank handle. Might have worked like a champ on a hard, level surface, but I had to reach so far under the car to get under the frame (everything outboard is PLASTIC), that it just wasn't happening. So I called the State Police to ask for help & this trooper in a Camaro, of all things, shows up in a few minutes. He says, yep, there's no way you can use that jack under these conditions. So he calls the VDOT emergency road assistance dude who shows up with a 3-ton floor jack & an on-board compressor & air tools. I am saved! So I ask Trooper Camaro how, with all these cars flying around the bend with all the trees in the way, will I ever pull my little Jimmy & a camper out of the sand & out into 75 mph traffic?!?!?! So he says he's gonna go back one exit & get in front of all the cars, slow them down with a rolling roadblock, signal the VDOT guy & then I hit the gas. No problem! So he takes off, I hook the camper back up, the VDOT guy helps me throw all my stuff back in & I stuff a twenty in his pocket even though he's assures me there's no charge. So I'm casually getting myself organized when VDOT man yells "OKAY GO!" What?? I look back & here comes Officer Camaro with his lights on & all the traffic blocked up behind him going 10 mph. Yikes! I leap in the car & fire it up, try to take off, %&$*# emergency brake! Reach down, make sure I don't pop the hood instead of releasing the brake, & there's sand spraying all over the place as my little Jimmy & my Coleman camper screech off down the highway. I'm laughing my a$$ off as I yank my seatbelt on, & the cop turns around & lets everyone go. Whew! Only then do I realize how close I am to the bridge/tunnel! What if this had happened a few more miles down the road??? Anyway, it could have been SOOOOO much worse, thanks to the people of Virginia, your tax dollars at work saved my butt! Heck of an ending to an otherwise uneventful trip, rolled into the driveway at 10:05 last night. I'm not usually glad to be home from the beach but this time I surely was!

What a story. That would have been a mess trying to pull out of that spot. I would never have thought the trooper would have stopped/slowed traffic like that.
We saw lots of troopers running radar and writing tickets when we came home on Monday. They were on 168/664/64/295 and 95. We didn't go much over the limit and still made it home in great time. We left at 7:30am.

The trooper actually said a buddy of his had just pulled over a girl going 120 mph in that traffic! He said she was going to jail for that one! Idiot!
